Ways of Being — Foreshadowing Imagined Pasts / Recalling Untold Futures
Ways of Being embodies a cultural sensibility wherein temporal boundaries collapse, as artists draw from imagined or ancestrally felt memories and recall futures that are intimately sensed yet remain elusive. This exhibition brings together eight artists rooted in a South Asian context who explore ways of being that unfold through a sense of ambiguity, emotion, and temporal and experiential fluidity. The exhibition centres the human figure, which acts as a canvas upon which complex and often uncertain human experiences are rendered. Drawing on skeins of imagined memory the artists weave textured narratives of intimately-sensed yet elusive futures. In so doing, the artists in the exhibition offer a counterpoint to the current moment of literalism and immediacy.
